2011 Week 11
November 15, 2011
We're finally getting close to the time of year where everyone starts worrying about their bowel location. Many teams have gotten to that magic six-win mark which guarantees some fun in the sun, or at least windburn if you're going to Idaho for the Ham-itarian Bowel.
There were some really wild scores in last week's action, especially in some of the non-conference action between the Big 8 and the SWC. Kansas State pulled out a really close 53-50 win over Texas A&M. Baylor had a big comeback win over Kansas and coach Tommie Frazier. Oklahoma State bombed Texas Tech 66-6. I'm sure that score warmed the cold dark soul of Alabama's coach.
I'm not sure what's going on at the University of Kentucky. They just haven't been the same since the glory days of Tim Crotch and Jared Lorenzo and Lorenzo's magical oil. They got flushed away by the Vanderbilt Commodes 38-8.
We had a couple of exciting overtime games last weekend. Now I'm still not sure about these overtime rules, but even moreso I'm not sure what some of these coaches are thinking. Hey, Ben Sandler, after Purdue scored the TD you shouldn't have settled for the field goal.
Even more stunning was the overtime session between Texas Christian and Boys' State. TCU scored and went for two points. Then when Boys' State had their turn they decided to kick the extra point. It was just desserts that they missed it. Hey, Coach Patterson, you needed to go for two points there.
Wisconsin pounded Minnesota to maintain possession of Paul Bunyan's Ass.
The University of Houston seems to be bringing back the glory days of Bill Yeomans and the veer offense. Back then they beat Tulsa 100-6, this time they only managed a 73-17 win over Tulane.
Houston's cross-town rival, the University of Texas at Houston, is having a successful debut in the geographically challenged Pac-8. UCLA lost to U.T.A.H. in an unexpected east Texas blizzard, 31-6.
Perhaps the biggest game of the week occurred out west as Oregon really stuck it to Stanford. That was a great effort by the Beavers. Cardinals' quarterback Andrew Luck had a tough outing which might send his NFL draft stock plummeting. But even if that happens, he can fall back on his career as a neanderthal spokesman for Gordon Geico Insurance.
I'm really looking forward to the coming weekend, what with all the great rivalry week matchups, such as Boston U vs. Notre Dame, Arizona vs. ASU, Michigan State vs. Indiana, South Carolina vs. The Citadel, and Florida vs. Furman. See you next week!
