2025 Week 6
October 6, 2025
One of the best things about college football is seeing a downtrodden team upend a visiting powerhouse. Upsets are what really make the game great. Fans of the home team come in, hoping against hope that they can pull out a miracle win. The crowd gets louder and louder as hope slowly becomes reality. Then the team makes some clutch late plays and clinches the victory while tearful fans celebrate.
So I want to congratulate the biggest upset winners of the day. It was great to see the plucky underdogs from Alabama pull away from undefeated powerhouse Vanderbilt for a dramatic 30-14 victory. Hopefully this is the start of a new era for Tide football.
Another great story is the emergence of new powers. One of the most underreported stories this year has been the success of Texas Tech, who moved to 5-0 with a big 35-11 win over Houston. Of course the Red Raiders have had great starts before then faded, so we'll have to wait until Tech lines up against big boy conference foes in Austin and State College Station.
Notre Dame has fully recovered from its 0-2 start with a solid 28-7 win over the wayward kids from Boys' State. Clemson also seems to have turned a corner as they clobbered the Tar Heels 38-10 in Chapel Hill.
I've learned that Coach Belichick has made a lot of enemies over the years. I realized that this Saturday when I walked into a nearby room and saw a broken lamp and a bunch of vomit on the floor. My good friend Don Shula came over and said "Beeno, can you call cleanup? Things got really bad around here - Buddy Ryan did a celebration shot for each point Clemson scored".
My Panthers had an easy win over Boston College, stomping the Golden Beagles 48-7. Elsewhere in the Big East, the Syracuse Orange Testicle was neutered by SMU.
Another surprise team this year is Virginia, they came from behind to upend the St. Louisville Cardinals 30-27 in overtime. Meanwhile highly rated Miami renewed their rivalry with Florida State and built up a big lead before the Seminoles made a valiant comeback to make things look respectable, losing 28-22. That really sets up the Hurricanes for the title in the SEC South.
One of the wildest finishes occurred at Baylor, where Kansas City State gave up 18 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to lose 35-34. I haven't seen someone get burned in 15 minutes in Waco since 1993.
Penn State visited the historic Rose Bowl to take on UCLA and lost 42-37. After that and the Oregon loss I'm guessing the Nittany Lions will stop playing Pac-8 teams. Maryland may feel likewise after blowing a 17-point lead to Washington.
Iowa State's fine season hit a roadblock vs. Cincinnati as the Cyclones lost 38-30 to the Bengals.
One of the more fascinating results in the Sun Belt was Florida holding off highly rated Texas, 29-21. Peyton Manning the Third struggled again in his grandpa's house of horrors, the Swamp. I'm sure Coach Superior is having a good chuckle over all that. Hey, Visor Boy, can't wait until you can join us up here. I know Johnny has been waiting a few years for a chance to give you a special greeting.
Well we are now moving up to the some of the classic top ranked matchups, games you look forward to every year, like the Red River Shootout between Texas and Oklahoma and, uh, Indiana at Oregon. Talk to you soon!
