1996 Week 10
November 25, 1996
It was a sad day in football on Saturday, watching great football coaches close out their careers with Holtz, Majors, Switzer and Stallings calling it quits. But that is what's great about this sport. Players change and coaches change, but the teams still exist. And the fans and the alumni still support their teams. Great stuff this college football.
Now I understand why all these people were telling me that I was wrong about Notre Dame Stadium. I now understand why everyone else was saying that ND is going to expand their stadium. Well, that is a surprise. I just don't understand how they can do it though. How can they put that much more pressure on Bob Davie, their new head coach? They can't sell out what they have now and then their going to add more seats?? Why don't they just fire the man now before he gets humiliated by the Administration? Did you see all those empty seats at Lou's farewell game on Saturday? And I would have thought that they fill everyone of them. It was a great moment. ND crushing a weaker opponent and Lou pacing the sidelines as nervous as a father expecting triplets!! And they still think they need more seats. I guess I just don't understand.
Maybe Lou could go coach at OSU now. I wouldn't be surprised if Cooper found himself out of a job. And Cooper could pack the 'shoe so I'm sure Lou could do alright there too. Maybe the fans at ND just were getting tired of him or something. In fact, I bet OSU could add another few thousand seats if they were able to shrink the field a bit and put more seats on the ground. If they made it around 80 yds. by 30 yds., they could get another 20,000 fans in there. Maybe they could dig down and lower the field a few feet and get some more seats.
Well, time to get ready for Thanksgiving with Mom. Root for Pitt against Penn State this weekend. It should be a good one this year.
