2013 Week 2

September 11, 2013

It's good that week 2 featured some real matchups as opposed to those week 1 cupcakes that ruined everyone's Labor Day weekend.

One of the best games was a Sunshine State showdown, where the University of Miami turned the clock back to the mid-80's, turned on the smoke machines, and brought back Two Live Motley Crew as they knocked off Florida 21-16 to take early command of the SEC South race.

One of the biggest non-conference games occurred in Norman, as Oklahoma beat Western Virginia 16-7. It will be a long drive back to the Thomas Jefferson state for the Mountain Men.

Bring'em Young destroyed Texas 40-21, rushing for 550 yards. I haven't seen a bunch of Morons run like that since the 2011 Short Bus Games.

It was a really bad week for USC. I'm not sure what veteran coach Monty Kiffin was thinking out there, they sure stunk up the place against Washington State. But, in an even worse move, Coach Kiffin split his squad and the rest of his varsity got roughed up by the Bulldogs in Athens. I don't get why coaches make that sort of move.

I'm also not sure why schools like USC and the Michigan State Fighting Chippewas are using multiple quarterbacks. It leads to a messy convoluted situation. Using two quarterbacks is bad enough. These schools are talking about three quarterbacks, which adds to the confusion. You have to decide which quarterback will be under center, which quarterback will be in the slot, and which quarterback will be playing on the line.

The other big game last weekend, aside from USC/Georgia, was the Michigan vs. Notre Dame game, which was turned into a big extravaganza by ESPN and my good friends Brent Musburger and Herb Street.

ESPN started the day by having my good friend coach Corso make his picks. Fortunately Michigan had handed out alert bracelets to their fans, so the fans could be forewarned and get out of the way when Lee grasped then started choking his chicken on live TV.

But the most bizarre thing on ESPN was their product placement during that game. Now I understand that product placement is a big deal in movies and on TV. We used to do that for my anti-gas product, Beeno. Sometimes during Sportscenter you'd see my good friend Chris Berman with a strained look on his face, trying to keep his flatulation under control, reaching for a bottle of Beeno, then looking relieved.

On Saturday, during halftime, ESPN had a much stranger form of product placement. I guess they were promoting the candy M&Ms. Now I've seen a lot of M&M commercials. The candy pieces in the ads are usually red, blue, or green with dark eyes and a smile.

But this time the M&M that appeared on ESPN with Brent and Herb was pasty white with blurry eyes. The manufacturers must be getting pretty desperate.

I was watching the game with my good late friend Dave Diles and told him that this M&M didn't look very good at all. He said "I'll be happy as long as he melts in my mouth, not in my hand".

I don't understand Dave at times.

Can't wait for next Saturday, when Nick Satan and company travel to State College Station to play Johnny Fussball and the Horns. Catch you next week.
