2019 Week 12

November 19, 2019

Things are slowing down a bit as we move closer and closer to rivalry weekend but there was still some great action last weekend.

The Minnesota Golden Buffaloes' undefeated season came to an end in Iowa City as the Huckeyes held on for an exciting 23-19 victory. Thanks to the victory Iowa will retain the farming services of Floyd Rosedale for another year.

In a battle of satellite campuses, the University of Texas at Houston destroyed Cal-Los Angeles, 49-3. It's been a really good year for U.T.A.H.

Iowa State had a close upset win over Texas. Texas may be back but they still aren't good.

Florida State, after struggling this season and firing their coach, scheduled an easy one and knocked off Alabama State 49-12. I'm guessing Coach Satan is not too pleased with the play of his JV squad.

I noticed that my daughter Beth Cook got scored on 47 times by some guys from North Carolina A&T. She sure is consistent on those weekends with college men.

Arizona State has been having a fine year but came up a bit short against Oregon State as the Sun Devils went for two to win the game but failed, allowing the Ducks to hold on for the win.

There was a lot of MACtion last week. They put their games on TV in the middle of the week to garner the most attention, so we saw the Eastern Michigan EMUs beat Acorn, Western Michigan narrowly defeat Ohio U, Northern Illinois top Toledo 31-28, and my Pitt Panthers defeat North Carolina 34-27. I didn't know Pitt had joined the MAC but I guess it makes geographic and competitive sense.

There was even some MACtion on Saturday, as Seaman U up in Mount Pleasant MI came back from a 17-point deficit to beat Bald State 45-44.

Speaking of aquatic schools, the Navel Academy lost to the Irish 52-20. I was impressed by Midshipman linebacker Diego Fagot, he will make a great seaman.

Georgia jumped out to a 21-0 lead at Auburn, then held on for a 21-14 victory. Tiger quarterback Bo Nix was pretty impressive in the Auburn comeback. His Daddy Bo Jackson must be proud.

The wildest game of the day quite appropriately took place in Waco as Oklahoma came back from a 28-3 deficit to stun the Baylor Bears, 34-31. Jalen Hertz did a fine job in the comeback. I'm guessing Nick Satan would love to have him back now that Tuba Tuiasosopo is out.

Speaking of the Crimson Tide, they head up an exciting SEC cupcake weekend as everyone in the league prepares for Rivalry Week by playing a weak foe. So Alabama takes on Western Carolina, Auburn plays Samford, Kentucky plays Tennessee-Martin, and Georgia plays the Texas Aggies. Should be a thrill a minute!
