2022 Week 11
November 15, 2022
It was a fantastic full week of football, with Tuesday MACtion opening up the week then some great late night games on Saturday closing things down.
I admit I kind of lost focus thanks to all the mint juleps that my good friend Johnny Majors was providing me. So I missed the end of Arizona's upset over UCLA, but it sounded like it really closed out a fine slate.
The most notable exciting game out west took place in Eugene as Washington came to town and stunned the 6th ranked Oregon Beavers. Granted, there wasn't a lot of defense in the game, but that just made it all the more exciting as Washington kept on hitting pass after pass. Then a boneheaded Oregon decision to go for it on 4th and 1 set up the game-winning field goal. What excitement! And let's not overlook the quarterback battle - Bo Jackson's son Nick has done great ever since getting out of his father's shadow at Auburn. And the Huskies' signal-caller? Never have I ever seen a bunch of Beavers get repeatedly penetrated by one Penix.
Other top-rated teams fared better. Top-ranked Georgia won the battle of Bulldogs, taking out Rick Leach's Ole Southern Miss State team, 45-19. Ohio State and Michigan tuned up for their showdown, with the Huckeyes crushing Indiana and Michigan pounding the Nebraska Cornholio. Speaking of which, Illinois had had another rough week as they lost to Purdue 31-24, which was bad news for Coach Butt-head.
Elsewhere in the Big Ten, Iowa had an unusual win over Wisconsin, 24-10. The Huckeyes ended up with 24 points on 146 yards of total offense. I haven't seen so little movement of a ball since Marlon Brando's sex scenes in "Last Tango in Paris".
Liberty University, which has been trying to become America's University, at least for those who think dancing is Nick Satan's work, was upset by the Canadians from Yukon 36-33.
The Fighting Irish won their annual tussle with the Navel Academy, 35-32, as they continue to show great improvement through the season. Meanwhile the Syracuse Orange Testicles continued their downward spiral, getting clobbered by Florida State as if it was still 1991.
Alabama, still hoping to climb in the BS rankings, had a nice come from behind win in Oxford, beating Ole Southern Piss 30-24. LSU, coming off their great win over the Tide, held off R Kansas in a defensive struggle, 13-10.
One of my favorite games to watch was the battle in Austin. TCU played great defense once again and shut down the Texas Longhorns, 17-10. Texas may be back but I'm not sure why and the Horny Toads look to be in command of the SWC.
Well, we are now about to enter SEC cupcake week. You've got Alabama hosting Austin Pee, Texas A&M playing parochial school U-Mass, LSU playing the Alabama Birmingham JV team, Auburn taking on Western Kentucky, and Vanderbilt hosting weak sister Florida.
Should be an incredibly boring weekend of football in the SEC, but at least we've got scintillating matchups elsewhere like Clemson vs. Miami, Baylor vs. TCU, and my personal favorite, the TV friendly battle between USC and UCLA. I like seeing my Song Girls from every angle, so I'm looking forward to what is known colloquially as the Cheerleader's Bowel. Talk to you soon!
