2023 Week 12

November 21, 2023

We've gotten through SEC cupcake week and now are fully into rivalry week.

That's not to say there weren't actual rivalry games last weekend. UCLA pounded USC 38-20 to win my favorite trophy, the Cheerleader Bowel.

There was a pretty exciting interstate rivalry as Kansas City State came from behind to beat the University of Kansas, 31-27. Those KC Missouri boys sure like to stick it to their civil war rivals from the Jayhawk State.

One of the best cinderella stories of the year is James Madison University. In their first year in division 1 they've had a great season, but their perfect record ended on Saturday when expansion state Appalachian State knocked them off 26-23.

I was especially pleased that JMU's great season was acknowledged by ESPN, as they held the gameday show on the James Madison campus. Unfortunately the moment in the show when my good friend Coach Corso picks the winner ended poorly as the JMU bulldog mascot began humping Coach's leg and Lee got confused and said that the winner of the game would be the Toledo Red Rockets.

SEC cupcake week had some surprises as Auburn was stunned by New Mexico State, 31-10. It's one thing to lose to Alabama, Coach Freeze, but you aren't going to make many friends when you lose to a foreign team.

Iowa continued their fine turnaround season, getting to 9-2 with a scintillating 15-13 win over Illinois. I must say that Coach Ferentz keeps on finding unique ways to put points on the board; I've never before seen a team win with 7 safeties and an extra point.

The St Louisville Cardinals have had a great season of their own. They held off Miami 38-31. Elsewhere in the Big East, my Panthers finally got another win as they beat Fredo 24-16.

One of the best endings took place in Columbus Missouri, as the Mizzou Tigers took on the Florida Gators. Missouri won it 33-31 on a last second field goal by their corpulent 243 pound kicker, Harrison Beavis.

Out West Washington State pummeled Coach Prime Directive and his Colorado Golden Buffaloes by a score of 56-14, dropping CU to 4-7 and keeping them out of a bowel. Cross-state rival Washington kept its undefeated season going with a tight 22-20 win over Oregon State. Oregon State was hurt by a pick thrown by Clemson transfer QB DJ Uiagalelei, which helped extend the UW lead.

Uiagalelei sounds like a social disease so I'm surprised he's not being used on defense against Penix.

The other top teams had key games as well. Ohio State pounded Minnesota 37-3. Michigan traveled to Maryland and eeked out a 31-24 win over the Twerps. And Georgia had little trouble at Tennessee, winning 38-10.

Well, the week before rivalry week is over which means we now have rivalry week with huge games like Ohio State at Michigan in "The Game", Oregon State at Oregon in "The Civil War", Wisconsin at Minnesota in the contest for Paul Bunyan's Ass, and Notre Dame at Stanford in the Battle for the #2 Pencil. Can't wait!
