2024 Week 11

November 12, 2024

We had some more bigtime college football matchups last weekend. The game that got the most attention was in Baton Rouge as the Crimson Tide pounded the Bayou Bungholes in the evening rain 42-13. As I've always said, LSU is like Dracula, they suck the life out of you at night.

The LSU fans were not happy on Saturday. They booed, threw items on the field, and walked out of the stadium. And that was just during the halftime show where head coach B Kelly took the stage and did his wrap act.

The Tide re-established themselves as a likely BS playoff invitee, at least until they lose to Mercer next week.

Elsewhere in the SEC Ole Southern Piss stuck it to Georgia, winning 28-10 in Oxford as the Bulldogs were held to 245 yards. I haven't seen Coach Kiffin put up such a strong defense since his divorce hearing.

Apparently my daughter Beth Cook is at it again. She was hanging around the guys from Southern U and they kept on trying to score on her two at a time in some twisted overtime session. I sure wonder about that gal at times.

One of the wilder finishes was the Jacksonville State game at La Tech. The Jaguars, trailing by 6, hit a Hail Mary to score as the clock ran out but then missed the extra point. Somehow they won in overtime. Good job by Coach Dick Rodriguez though I'm not sure whether the result counts in the Sun Belt, in NFL Europe, or in the regular NFL standings.

I was joined by Iowa legend, wily coach Hayden Fry, as the Huckeyes made their first trip to the Rosey Bowel in decades to play UCLA. Poor Coach Fry was frustrated at yet another loss in Pasadena, "I can't believe we struggle so hard to win there" while Coach Schembechler told him to shut up. Then they started throwing chairs at each other and Coach Hayes had to go in and separate them. You know it's bad when Woody has to be the peacemaker.

Speaking of Woody and his old school, Ohio State destroyed Purdue 45-0. The OSU band's halftime show featured an intricate moving formation that simulated public defecation. Apparently it was part of their "salute to Columbus tailgates".

Indiana went to 10-0 after a hard-fought 20-15 win over Michigan. I really want to talk to Coach Knight about his views of the IU D but he's apparently still stuck in processing before coming up here. Maybe in a few weeks.

The biggest upset of the day occurred when Georgia Tech, a nearly 12 point underdog, held on to beat the Miami Hurricanes 28-23. This will probably be crucial in terms of BS playoff seeding as the Canes will now get blown out at home instead of receiving a bye and getting blown out at a neutral site.

The biggest controversy occurred very early Sunday morning. Bring 'em Young was trailing the on the road 21-19 late and faced a fourth and 10 at their own 9. Their QB was sacked on fourth down but a late holding penalty gave them renewed life and a first down and they moved downfield to kick a game winning field goal.

Having watched the video I am in full agreement that that was a horrible call. What shocks me is the home team being jobbed by their own league's refs in a non-conference game. I don't blame the University of Texas at Houston athletic director for being angry. The SWC should treat its flagship Loan Star state program U.T.A.H. better.

Next week I'm looking forward to Clemson's visit to my Panthers, Tennessee at Georgia, and, speaking of the Southwest Conference, Texas going to Fayetteville to play R Kansas. We've got Darrell Broyes and Frank Royal already salivating over that one. Talk to you soon!
