2026 Week 7

October 19, 2026

Wow, that's the second straight weekend of scintillating college football finishes. The season is really gearing up and we are only two weeks away from the release of the first bowel system (BS) playoff rankings.

I saw the other day that they're going to expand the BS playoffs from 12 teams to 24, which excites me because I can't wait for two teams to face off in a playoff game in the Weed Whacker Bowel. I still remember the time we were assigned to cover that bowel and my good friend Coach Corso took me to the Shreveport Water Works Museum. At least that's what the pamphlet he handed me said. The building itself didn't look like much of a museum, more like an industrial warehouse. The next thing I knew, Lee ran out of a room wearing only his skivvies and some handcuffs, asking me to dry him off. I then noticed some overweight women who clearly had bladder control problems chasing after him. I don't understand Coach's hobbies at times.

Alabama paid a visit to long-time rival Tennessee and got shellacked by a 26-10 score. Coach DeBore may want to start looking into the housing market in Piscataway.

That wasn't the biggest upset in the SEC. Auburn blew a 24-14 lead as Georgia roared back between the hedges to tie it up, then Georgia looked like they were going to drive downfield for the win, at least until Bulldog QB Gunnar Stockton decided to bounce the football off his center's tummy and fumbled the ball to Auburn, who drove in for the game winning kick as the horn sounded.

The Bulldogs had only ascended to the top spot in the polls the previous week and showed all the staying power of a 13-year-old boy.

The other SEC shocker took place in Austin, as Florida came back from a 17-3 deficit to knock off the Longhorns, 27-24. Peyton Manning III got sacked five times, which broke the family's most times sacked record set by his grandpa with Kenny Chesney.

Speaking of multi generational football families, former Michigan coach Floyd Carr certainly had a busy Saturday, watching his quarterback grandson come off the bench for Michigan then watching him play again for Notre Dame out at Bring 'Em Young. I'd think the kid would get a bit tired doing all those dropbacks.

The ND vs BEY game was a real slobberknocker as the two teams exchanged haymakers all game until the home team took a late lead. The Irish then drove the field and had one final chance to win, but the pass fell incomplete with plus or minus one second left. Meanwhile the BEY defender combined with the ND receiver to do the best full body contact grinding slow dance I've seen since the "Joe Namath Twerks at Studio 54" video.

The late late show was pretty good too, as Dylan Raiola came off the bench to help Oregon come from behind against Nebraska. I'm guessing the Cornholio now regret trading Dylan to the Ducks for five boxes of vintage 2017 Nike swag.

Coach Prime Directive and his Golden Buffaloes put up a valiant fight but came up short against U.T.A.H., losing 27-24. It's another great year for the guys from Houston.

Miami and archrival Florida State ended up playing double overtime. Now I'm still a bit confused about these overtime rules. Each team scored in the first overtime and kicked the extra point, okay, so I understand that. Then Miami went first in the second overtime and scored then decided to go for 2 points. Miami converted so they took a 43-35 lead. Florida State then completed a great pass to the end zone for a touchdown to make it 43-41, then went for 2 but were forced to try from around their 40 yard line. That just doesn't seem fair. And I guess because the FSU guy and the Miami guy caught the pass simultaneously they gave a point to each team so Miami won something like 44-42.

Based on rankings the biggest game of the day took place in, uh, Bloomington Indiana, as the Ohio State Huckeyes took on Indiana. The game came down to one final play as IU quarterback Josh Hoover tried to loft a game-winning pass to receiver Nick Marsh. The WR didn't pay attention to his foot placement so caught the ball out of bounds, the quarterback decided to throw the ball to lead a wide open receiver out of bounds, and the Ohio State cornerback got burned worse than Joan of Arc. I haven't seen three young men choke like that within seconds since Rod Jeremy's "Flufferfest 2000".

I'm looking forward to this coming weekend as we're getting some fine non-conference action. Apparently there's a new mid-season intersectional classic with Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Illinois facing off against USC, UCLA, and Oregon. It's great to see some mid October non-conference matchups between the Big Ten and the Pac-8.
