2014 Week 15
December 10, 2014
Well, we finally got through all the conference championship game excitement. I tell you, it's really something when you have a couple Friday night championship games then wall to wall football for over 13 hours on Saturday. Kind of makes a man feel drained and relieved, like after a colonic or something.
Speaking of colorful cleansing, that sure was a number (2) that Northern Illinois did all over Boweling Green in the MAC title game. I haven't seen a beating like that in Detroit since back in the 40's when my cousin Jimmy tried to grab Joe Louis' hat.
The Midwestern title games were ugly blowouts. Ohio State reamed Wisconsin 59-0. Coach Hayes was so excited up here that he punched himself into a coma.
Boyes State had little trouble knocking off Fresno on the blue turf, 28-14. I don't even know what league they're in, they keep on renaming all of them.
For instance, in the most exciting finish of them all, Central Florida threw a Hail Mary on the last play to beat East Carolina in a battle of expansion states, 32-30. Apparently that win gave them the American League title. And here I thought their league rivals the St. Louisville Cardinals were in the National League.
I also noticed that Cincinnati beat Houston 38-31 to take the American Football Conference title. It's another tough championship round loss for the Oilers.
Florida State had a tight win over Georgia Tech in the SEC South championship game.
Southern Methodist had a tight win up in the Klondike over Yukon, 27-20, to win the NCAA losers' bracket.
Meanwhile there were a bunch of crossover games for teams that had either already clinched their leagues or had come up a bit short.
In the Southwest vs. Big 8 showdown, Baylor held on against Kansas City State, 38-27.
Pac-8 champion Oregon had little trouble with WAC champion Arizona, 51-13.
And Nick Satan's Alabama Crimson Tigers made a strong statement about SEC supremacy by blowing out Missouri 42-13. That continued struggles against the SEC for Big Ten teams.
I'm always both sad and happy when the regular season is over. Sad because we're nearing the end, but happy because we're almost to the best part of the year, bowel season. Next week I'll be sharing Beeno's 2014 Bowel Preview. I'm already doing my research on all the bowels, digging around to see what nuggets I can pull out. See you soon!
