2021 Week 14
December 8, 2021
Well we've now completed an almost normal regular season. That is, except for the Army/Navy tilt next Saturday. Things get nasty around here for that one. First off, all the military guys show up and you don't want to see Nimitz and Schwarzkopf start wrestling each other. Second, all the other old coaches and players from the WW II era start identifying with their wartime branches which means you get an Army guy like Tom Harmon arguing with a Navy guy like Woody Hayes. Tom and Woody's arguments about Michigan and Ohio State pale in comparison to their flyboy and seaman gobbler insults.
But that's for this Saturday. Soon after that game we'll have the beginning of that magnificent time known as bowel season. Be sure to stay tuned for Beeno's Bowel Preview, I'll be releasing the best of my bowel knowledge later next week.
As is usually the case with conference championship week, there weren't as many games, but the stakes were really high.
Northern Illinois shot down Kent State 41-23 to win the MAC title. In other minor conference action, Louisiana beat the Appalachian State Mountain men 24-16 to win the Southern Belt Conference. And Cincinnati defeated the Oilers 35-20 to win the AFC Central crown.
It's been a great year for the many branches of the University of Texas (except for the one in Austin). UT San Antonio held off Western Kentucky to win Conference UFO. In non-conference action UT at Houston had a big win over Oregon. And U.T.A.H.'s JV team, UT at Houston State, beat South Dakota State in a 46-13 blowout.
Also in the Loan Star State the Baylor had an exciting 21-16 win over Oklahoma State, stopping the Okies just short of the goal line on the game's final play. I think that may have clinched a Cotton Bowel berth for the SWC's Bears.
In the Pac-8 title game the California Smelly Hippies knocked off USC 24-14. My Pitt Panthers completed a great regular season with an easy 45-21 win over Wake Forest in the ACC title game.
In the two games that got the most attention, #1 ranked Georgia jumped out to an early lead over Alabama, then Nick Satan's black magic took over and the Tide ran away with the SEC title game 41-24. And Michigan blew out Iowa, 42-3 to take the Big Ten. It was a fine turnaround season for coach Jack Harbaugh.
I'm going to take some down time to work on my bowel preview, but I'll be back in the middle of next week with my comments on all 44 games and 93 teams. Catch you then!
